Elizabeth Horman
ELIZABETH HORMAN 1905-2001
Style/Biography
Elizabeth Horman painted what she saw, but it was a scene that was hers alone. Everything was in color, deep or just a shade of pure color, but each brought the one next to it – and finally the whole, a vibrant statement – not of a scene but of a feeling.
In “Brooklyn Bridge” New York City becomes a magic city. In “Penthouse C” a New York terrace becomes a dream garden. The assurance of each brush stroke is again a feeling not for pigment but the beauty of close, related colors.
As an American Impressionist, she brought a mature technique to a personal dream. The pictures of flowers, travels or people have one thing in common, a joyfulness, a deep sympathy with the subject – even in the darker works there is a message of hope emerging.
The depth in these paintings was earned through a ten year successful search for peace through her paintings. As a result, these are harmonious pictures – hoping to bring happiness.
Elizabeth Horman, was a past President of the National Association of Women Artists, Vice President of Artists Equity – a member of the Fine Arts Federation of New York, Advisor to the Land Mark Commission. In Who’s Who. Winner of the Medal of Honor of the National Association of Women Artists.
Elizabeth Horman’s vibrant texture of color, in deep strokes or just a touch of pure light, creates a rhythm of emotion which bursts into song, and evokes a sensual embrace and feeling which we all understand and connect with.
